Interesting Facts about My Shihpoo

The Shih-Poo is a designer and Hybrid breed that were bred from "Shih Tzu" and a "Miniature Poodle. They are very very small in size and do not require a lot of space to accomodate.

Their obedient nature makes them an ideal fit for a family dog, especially for a family who lives in an apartment or flat.

Temperament and Personality

The one bad thing about Shihpoo is that they bark a lot. They even bark more than Shih-Tzu's. They are typically shy around strangers but usually befriend people quickly.

A detailed post on ShihPoo Behaviour

ShihPoos are very energetic and playful breeds of dog and love to stay in the company of Kids. They are a perfect house dogs who develop a loving relationship with all the family members.

Offcourse, every Shihpoo will have different personality and have different characteristic traits, but here, in this article, I share some common behavior traits that most ShihPoo's have in common.

Shihpoo's love to play with kids. Kids shall be older than 5 years as they know better how to behave around a dog. Shihpoo's prefer to be around people who can give him space when needed. That's why they prefer mature people who know when to leave the dog alone.

Shihpoo's are very small, that means they can live in small apartments and require very less space to live.



Let's talk about some bad habits of ShihPoo

Shihpoo's love to bark. It is very important to train a Shihpoo to control her barking or else you can be in trouble with his barking abilities. Also, Shihpoo puppies have a lot of energy inside them, and you as his owner need to make sure he uses that energy to get trained and not to create a mess.

This breed of dog is really stubborn. I mean I can easily award Shihpoo the most stubborn dog breeds of earth. But you can fix this problem if you start to train early when he's still a young puppy. It is hard to say no to them but you must as that will make them learn that there are certain boundaries as well.

How to Teach your dog Good Behavior

Does your dog selective hear you? You tell him to come and sit and he ignores you like a girlfriend ignores a boyfriend after she's upset? :P 

Does your dog chase a squirrel beside a busy traffic road and you screamed at the top of your voice but all in vain? It's time to teach your dog to behave and teach him good manners

Dogs don't understand the commands and you need to teach your dog what does that commands mean. Dogs are smart only if you train them and put in effort.

Tips to Teach your dog with Good Manners

  1. Positive Reinforcement 
When you are teaching your dog to show good behavior, It is important to lure him with treats and encourage him to show good behavior. Do not encourage Bad behavior. Most of the dog owners praise and encourage bad behavior as well without knowing so.

2. Consistency 

 It is very very important to show Patience and Consistency when you are training your dog or puppy. Puppies tend to show results after 25-30 days while elder dogs take longer. You need to keep in mind the fact that neither your dog understands English and neither you are a certified trainer who can get results fast.

3. Put in Effort

 Be sure to put in effort and time daily. Spend at least 30 minutes daily in trying to train your dog. Gradually increase once you get a hang of it.

4. Timing  

Timing plays a crucial role in training your dog as well. Be sure to make your dog tired before you start training routines. Play some physical games and also tire his brain before beginning training. Also, take your dog for a walk twice a day. Dogs love to walk and travel outside.
